Infocenter - Sell photos - editing

Do I have to edit the images on Pixmac or can I do it on iSyndica?

If you registered with Pixmac before the end of 2009, your images will appear in your "Unfinished" section after uploading via iSyndica. You can edit them both on Pixmac or iSyndica - all info will be transferred with the image. You will have to send your images for approval on Pixmac as usual.

If you registered after January 2010, you can edit your images only on iSyndica . Once you have been accepted as a photographer for Pixmac, you won't have to send your images for approval anymore; they will appear online for sale directly.

What is a Model release (MR) and when do I need it?

A MR is an agreement of the model pictured in a photograph for your distribution of the photograph. A MR is needed for each image where a recognizable person is pictured- even if it is you or someone from your family. When there is a child or adolescent under 18 years old, the signature of their parent or guardian is needed.

What should a Model release look like?

You can download a template for an MR in your account in Sell photos - Model category.

How do I add a Model release?

You need to make a model first. Fill in all required data (name, gender, ethnicity, etc.) and upload the MR. You can also add some more info such as date of birth. After that you have two possibilities how to add this model with MR to images:

  • After clicking the image open the first panel "Releases" and choose the right model and release here.
  • Tick the right image and click "Add Model releases". In the new panel, choose the right model and release.

What is a Property release and when do I need it?

A Property release is an agreement of the property owner when the photo is of a specific identifiable object. It is needed only when the property is recognizable. If you make a photo of a car and the brand name isn't recognizable, you won't need a PR.
It is more complicated with locations and historical buildings. To be sure, you will have to get information on whether you need PR or not from its owner. You can try to find some info in web forums or contact the owner directly.

What are "Series" and "Variants"?

A Series is a group of photos, usually from one shooting, that have something in common (e.g. they are shot in the same location or with the same models etc). Series can help buyers because they may be looking for more pictures of the same models etc. If you set a series, we will show other pictures from the series in the image detail, which increases the sales potential. You can set a series very easily in the section "Sell images/My pictures/unfinished" by selecting the pictures and clicking "Set series". There is not limit to the number of pictures in a series. To get a better idea of what a series is please have a look at the examples below:

Variants are almost identical pictures with only very small differences, for example portraits of the same woman with different facial expressions. The number of pictures in a variant is limited to 7. Only the first image of the variant is visible on the website, the rest of pictures in the variant are hidden and are visible only after clicking on the first picture. The reason for this is that buyers can get frustrated when they have to scroll through pages of almost identical images. You can set variants very easily in the section "Sell images/My pictures/unfinished" just by selecting the pictures and clicking "Set variant". To get a better idea of what a variant is please have a look at the examples below:

A Series can include one or more Variants.
