Iranians celebrate fire jumping ceremony in Tehran

Iranian Reza Darzi and his wife Masoumeh, jump above fire during a ceremony celebrating the 'Wednesday Fire' or Chaharshanbeh Soori of the Iranian calendar year in Qazvin province, 91 Miles (165 Km) west of Tehran, Iran on March 18, 2008. 'Wednesday Fire' is an ancient Zoroastrian ritual held on the last Wednesday eve of the Iranian year prior to Nowrouz, which starts March 21. Iranians have been massing dried bushes to set on fire and firecrackers for the celebrations which date back thousands of years to Zoroastrianism, the religion of ancient Persia.
