THE TEMPLE CHURCH Between Fleet Street and Embankment lies the Temple Church, which houses the Temple Knights. The church was built in 1185 and was originally the London Headquarters of the Knights Templar. Today, casts of the original effigies of the Temple?s Knights will be moving from their permanent home in the V&A to be placed for 10 weeks alongside their originals in Temple Church for a special exhibition called "Temple Church 1185 ? 2008: History, Architecture and Effigies" ( Exhibition opens 7th April ? 15th June ) Cast in 1850, long before the current effigies were ravaged by fire during the Blitz (World War 2), the four plaster knights will be displayed on raised plinths in all their medieval grandeur. This is the first time that the four greatest knights will be seen as originally conceived, together with their stone counterparts. London, England, 31st March 2008.
